NCC Wins 2016 European Award for Best Practices


Less than 14 days after, it was adjudged as the regulator of the year, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), at the weekend won the European Award for Best Practices 2016.

The award ceremony which held in Brussels, Belgium was hosted by the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR), an affiliate of the European Union (EU).
No fewer than 63 countries participated in the award ceremony out of which the NCC won the European Award for Best Practices 2016. The award which is the Gold category is "in recognition of its outstanding commitment, support and results in quality management strategies."

The award was received by Mr Tony Ojobo, director,Public Affairs, NCC, on behalf of the executive vice chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta.
The NCC's management style, impact on the community that it serves and the professional way it carries out its regulatory activities in supervising a sector that contributes immensely to the gross domestic product (GDP) of Nigeria were some of the considerations for the award.

The organisers referred to investors' confidence in the Nigerian telecommunications sector as a result of the transparent regulatory activities of the NCC.
Only recently, the telecommunication sector contributed 0.5 per cent to the GDP despite the negative growth rate recorded by the economy in the first quarter of 2016. Indeed the sector's contribution stood at 5.00 per cent up from the 3.49 per cent it recorded first quarter 2015.

The European Award for Best Practice 2016 convention in Brussels, Belgium gave awards to selected organisations, public administrations and companies from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Austiralia in recognition of their outstanding commitment and results in quality management strategies.
Top companies, public administrations and organisations which excel in their services/products and continue to push the limits of quality with innovations received the European Award for Best Practices 2016 for their hard-work and achievements in the presence of the international business community.

The awards programmes take a comprehensive look at the initiatives and strategies that business leaders implement in their companies and organisations. It recognizes the efforts of exceptional and talented employers and employees and provides motivation for continuous progress.
